el agua vale mas que todo

i love water, blues and everything nature so it’s natural i love glaciers 🌀

i wanted to share a few more of my moments with glaciers and thoughts around the importance of these big blocks of ice.

being in the patagonia in the south and the deserts in the north in the same month sent me down a rabbit hole. honestly this is why i travel. to see and feel what its like in other places and educate myself.

i was having a hard time grasping the freshwater situation on the planet and wanted to better understand. when i was in remote villages and endless dry deserts, i kept my eyes on the water. i would ask where does it come from? people here know. do you know where yours comes from? it’s something i admit i’ve taken for granted most of my life: turning on the faucet, long warm showers, drinking from the tap..

the current conflicts around argentina’s glacier laws inspired me to read and educate myself.

i learned ~ argentina has some 17,000 glaciers, mostly around the southern patagonian ice field (one of the largest freshwater reserves in the world, an incredible sight). glaciers that feed in to rivers, ecosystems, our agriculture, tourism, and us. people. big, beautiful glaciers that are at risk of privatization and mining, an unfair reality and another irreversible human-facilitated decision.

while we are not really “running out of water”, (desalination is advancing) we have been incredibly irresponsible and selfish at caring for it, sharing it, and keeping it clean. usable freshwater is depleting faster than it replenishes… natural reserves collapse from over pumping… glaciers are retreating from climate change – and now being sold – and clean water access is already a reality that affects billions of people.

i’m reminded of the respect the mongolian people have to their water sources 🙏

water is the most valuable thing in our world. and what happens when the value of water goes above the value of labor? we’ve seen the same with shelter in big cities already right? we need to use water more consciously, be better to our planet and consider our privileges that are not shared by everyone globally.

let’s learn more and support each other,
it’s all love 💙🌎
